Every day, people across the Greater Toronto Area reach out during their most difficult moments. Whether experiencing emotional distress, thoughts of suicide, or simply need someone to listen, our trained volunteers are here 24/7.
Your generosity keeps these life-saving services free, confidential and available whenever someone needs them.
Mental health challenges affect every community. 1 in 5 Canadians experience a mental illness each year. Every day, approximately 12 Canadians die by suicide. Here in the Greater Toronto Area, the need is especially urgent. 37% of Torontonians report feeling lonely at least three times per week — higher than the national average.
Behind every statistic is a person, family, or community navigating crisis, grief, or isolation. Demand for our accessible, compassionate services continues to grow.
When someone contacts Distress Centres of Greater Toronto, they are looking for someone who will listen. Someone who won’t judge. Someone who will stay with them through a difficult moment.
“The volunteer I spoke with didn’t rush me or try to fix everything. They simply listened and gave me space to share what I was carrying. Sometimes that’s exactly what a person needs.”
Every year, Distress Centres of Greater Toronto provides free, confidential support through a range of interconnected programs designed to meet people where they are.
Available 24 hours a day, our crisis and distress services provide immediate emotional support, crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and connections to additional community resources.
Programs like TeleCheck and Touching Base reduce loneliness and social isolation by providing regular check-ins, meaningful conversation, and ongoing connection for those who need it most.
From crisis intervention to peer-based survivor support, we help individuals and families through suicide crisis.
Through education, outreach, partnerships, and multilingual support, we help reduce stigma, improve mental health awareness, and make compassionate support more accessible across the GTA.
Because of generous supporters like you, we can continue to be a beacon of hope for our community. Every gift provides compassion, understanding and support when it’s needed most. Our Impact in 2025:
